The week of November 12-18 is Global Entrepreneurship Week where young people combine with entrepreneurs, business leaders, educators, employees, government officials, and many others to join together to inspire and encourage new ideas that can grow into innovative businesses.

Global Entrepreneurship Week: Unleashing Ideas

 

Anyone can get involved anywhere in the world to organize an activity to support GEW. These activities help to encourage entrepreneur behavior and ideas. Events are held all over the world with over 30,000 total from over 100 countries with all types of people getting involved.

Highlights for the Week

The Open of GEW is held in San Francisco, California this year. Several events attract large crowds with competitions and speakers. Here is a look at some of the best of the best.

• Startup Open – one of the big events where businesses that were first open during the time between GEW 2010 and 2011 compete for prizes. Before the week, the number has been narrowed down to the top 50 and the winner will be announced on November 14.
Global Student Entrepreneur Awards – students who run their own business while in high school or college can compete on the regional and national level to make it to the finals where they work with entrepreneurs and receive media attention while they win prizes and share in business services.
• Women 2.0 PITCH NYC Conference and Competition – enjoy keynotes by some of the most successful women entrepreneurs and participate in a mentoring session over lunch while 10 startup finalists give their pitch to judges for the grand prize.
• Idea Challenge – students compete to come up with unique ideas for everyday products that they are given on November 7 with the complete project due by the 16th, including a YouTube video. Winners are announced December 5th.

Any group planning an activity to coincide with Global Entrepreneurship Week can list their event on www.gewusa.org. Some local events that are being held include an entrepreneur hall of fame ceremony in Kentucky and an opening speech by Bono at Georgetown University.

This is an exciting week for anyone with a dream of owning their own company or creating a unique idea that will change the world.
