The battle between Microsoft and Google is reaching new highs. Following the recent Twitter tirade and the Motorola lawsuit, Microsoft revealed future plans to target Google’s search share. The company realizes that browsing is not the way to go about getting a greater share of the search market in the years to come. Hence, Microsoft has found a new way to increase its stake in search with mobile apps. The company will work on developing new mobile apps to make searching easier for the users.

As expected, the team behind Bing will be tasked with creating the apps which would help users search for what they are looking for. Currently, Google is far and away the dominant search engine. More than every other person in the world uses Google to search for anything and everything under the sun. Microsoft is not the only company looking to zone in on Google’s share of the search market. Yet, Yahoo, Bing and other search engines have so far failed to do so.

Microsoft to Target Mobile Apps for Greater Search Share

Technically speaking, Microsoft’s decision seems a bit premature. Only recently, a senior official of the company had announced that Microsoft is not placing too much emphasis on developing new apps for the Windows Phone 8 devices. Generally, mobile apps improve the user experience and make it easier for people to get the best out of their device. Yet, Microsoft is intent on developing mobile apps for a whole other reason.

The Microsoft mantra from now on is that apps are being used by people for search than browsers. So, the company is prepared to make the transition as well. It would take a lot from them to cut down Google’s search share as it has been the leading search engine for several years. Whether or not the new mobile apps enable Microsoft to get a part of Google’s share remains to be seen. As of now, it is merely a statement and the company has not started working on the mobile apps.
