The holiday season is the time of the year smartphone makers look forward to as they are virtually guaranteed huge sales. However, it is rare to see a company announcing the launch of a new smartphone this close to the end of the year. Leave it to Samsung to swim against the tide. The Korean company has gone ahead with unveiling the Galaxy Grand smartphone to the public and has announced they will launch it in early 2013.

Samsung to Launch Galaxy Grand Smartphone

Perfect End to a Colorful Year

It has been a colorful year for Samsung by all means. The company has been embroiled in controversy over the Apple patent lawsuit yet its products have continued to sell strongly. In fact, it almost comes as a surprise that Samsung is still the number one phone maker in the US given Apple’s recent successes. Announcing the launch of a new smartphone seems to be the perfect way to end the year on a high note.

About Galaxy Grand – Similar to Galaxy S III

The first impression one gets about the Galaxy Grand is that it is similar to the Galaxy S III in more ways than one. Some people who got to see it firsthand have commented that it does seem that Samsung has created a device which is similar to the S III. That is as far as appearances go. The screen size on the Galaxy Grand is 5 inches, which is bigger than the S III’s 4.8-inch screen. In addition, the phone carries a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor which is slightly lower than the 1.4 GHz processor on S III.

However, Samsung has made a statement in terms of the features available on Galaxy Grand. The phone will be available in both single and dual SIM versions. This clearly shows that Samsung is targeting the enterprise market with the Galaxy Grand. In contrast, the S III is targeted at the younger consumers who use their smartphones for purely entertainment purposes. That is not to say that they won’t be able to use the Galaxy Grand, it is just that enterprise users would find it more useful.

Final Word

Carrying the Android 4.1.2, the Galaxy Grand is a great addition to Samsung’s ever-growing product line. More news is expected to be revealed about it, including the features, price and most importantly release date, in the coming few weeks. Till then, users have to make do with Samsung’s existing products this holiday season.
