The latest in the Lumia line of phones was announced by Nokia during the LeWeb conference in Paris early this month. The Lumia series has been hyped up, but it seems that it just doesn’t catch on as well as its competitors. While Nokia has been struggling to hold its ground in a very competitive landscape, it might just be that the Lumia 620 can serve as a lifeline for the ailing company.

The cheapest Lumia

There’s always something to be said about devices being offered at an attractive price. With the label “cheapest”, the Lumia 620 could catch the attention of consumers. Technically, Nokia does not use the word cheap, but dubs the new phone as the “most affordable Windows 8 smartphone, so far.”

Tech specs

Cheap is good, but any self-respecting consumer will always take a look at the specifications before buying. What does the Lumia 620 have to offer?

The screen may not be that big, but it is bigger than the iPhone, and it does take video in 720p. It is also smaller than the previous Lumia phones, which is to be expected, considering the positioning they are targeting for the more affordable version.

It’s more fun

Aside from the affordable factor, Nokia is playing on the fun factor with the Lumia 620. Of course, it is always more fun when you have to play less, but their design and colors have been chosen to cater to people’s more playful tendencies. The Lumia 620 is “softer” and rounder and will be available in seven colours. And, if you’re the type who gets bored with colors easily, you’ll be glad to know that the shells are exchangeable.

So how much is cheap?

They say that the Lumia 620 is going to cost $249 (before taxes) and will ship by January. Interesting that the areas to receive it first will be the Asia-Pacific, Middle East, and Africa.
