Facebook Games Go Hardcore

Facebook games have always catered mostly to families. The gaming options are vast, including casino games such as Texas Holdem Poker, hidden object games like Hidden Chronicles, puzzle games like Candy Crush Saga, and the family and farming games like Café Land and of course the infamous Farmville. Yet even with the endless options, there is still extremely sought after and major revenue producing game genre missing from Facebook. And Facebook is fully aware of this fact.

New Genre of Games to Come

For this reason, in 2013 Facebook will be slanting their game producing focus towards action battle games like first-person shooter games, Hack and Slash and MMORPGs. Facebook will be launching 10 games to be developed by third party companies to focus on the hardcore gamers.

With gamers communicating with each other online and forming groups, Facebook will be able to refocus marketing efforts to those individual users.

Facebook commits to keeping gamers’ interest

Social gaming on Facebook is on the decline and they are making a commitment to keep over one billion Facebook users on line for longer periods of time. Some of the more traditional Facebook games have been more family oriented but, juvenile and have a shorter playing time. Facebook believes that with the arrival of these new games some of the more hardcore gamers will be further engaged in the gaming and willing to spend more time on Facebook and in turn generate additional earnings.
“You’ll see a whole set of games hitting in the next two quarters in particular and throughout the year that really start to redefine what people think of Facebook games,” head of game partnerships at Facebook Sean Ryan told Reuters in an interview. “It doesn’t mean we’re walking away from other games, but there’s no question our focus for 2013 much of it will be about becoming a better platform for core gamers and developers who make those games.”
One of the new games, Chrono Blade, created by startup developer Nway, is a real-time multi-player game in which gamers can team up with friends in co-op mode or switch to the more competitive PvP (player vs. player) mode.
