You can now buy a smartphone for $99. Believe it or not, you don’t have to break the bank to pay for a new smartphone. You would have guessed the phone is not going to be from Apple, Samsung or any other major provider. Rather, the smartphone is the Motorola Defy XT. You can buy it for less than $100 but with one string attached: you need to buy the package plan from Republic Wireless. With the $29 monthly plan, the phone can be yours for only $99. It is a great deal, to say the least.

Great Offer from Republic Wireless

Republic Wireless is one of the new companies that offer you prepaid wireless services for smartphones and tablets. The airtime the cellphone carrier provides its customers is purchased from Sprint. However, Republic Wireless only has to pay wholesale price for it. In a bid to attract customers, Republic Wireless has come up with some amazing low-priced offers. For example, they have a $19 plan for smartphone users. You can make unlimited calls, send unlimited texts and use as much data as you want without having to pay a dime extra. There are no terms & conditions on your usage.

At the same time, the company has been encouraging users to connect to Wi-Fi wherever possible. That would reduce their usage and make it more cost-effective for the provider. This doesn’t mean that you cannot use your phone if the Wi-Fi doesn’t work. You will be using the network of the data provider, which in their case is Sprint. So, effectively there is no problem in being asked to use Wi-Fi by your wireless service provider.

Regarding Motorola Defy XT

The Motorola Defy XT smartphone is priced at $249. The phone has no exciting features or any novelty factor to justify the price attached to it. Apparently, Republic Wireless understands that the phone won’t sell at its market price. In a bid to get more people to buy the Motorola Defy XT, they are offering it for sale at $99. The only notable feature is that the smartphone is waterproof but that is hardly something one would get excited about.

As mentioned above, you would have to buy their monthly plan for data usage and calling & texting which costs $29 per month. This makes it the perfect buy for people who are looking for economy over features and technology. They wouldn’t find a smartphone priced less than $99 but they would have to switch over to Republic Wireless’ services. Still, it is a bargain you should be willing to take, given that you are at least getting a smartphone at a great price.

At present, the Motorola Defy XT is the sole phone that is available from Republic Wireless. Expectedly, they are trying their best to sell as many units of it as possible. Unless they expand their catalog, they have to rely on it. It would be interesting to see whether the reduced price results in higher sales of Motorola Defy XT for Republic Wireless.
