Linux is growing in leaps and bounds in the enterprise market. More organizations then ever have started using Linux as their chosen infrastructure for cloud deployment. The quality offered by Linux is a plus which convinces enterprises to have their servers run on the open source operating system than the conventional Windows or Mac. This is what separates Linux from its more glamorous competitors. Linux is based on the contributions of developers from around the world. It is not an enterprise in itself looking to make big bucks.

Linux Strengthens Its Positions in the Enterprise Market

As reported before, the Linux Foundation conducted a survey regarding use of Linux among enterprises. The results clearly show that Linux is strengthening its position in the enterprise market as the platform of choice. According to the report, around 76% of the organizations queried about using Linux servers replied in the affirmative. This does include several companies that may not be using the cloud infrastructure of Linux but are still using servers based on the platform. Furthermore 74% of the companies stated they are planning to use Linux based cloud services in the near future.

While this is well-known to Linux enthusiasts, they might not be aware of the reasons why Linux has been able to achieve such stellar growth in the enterprise market. Here are some probable reasons how Linux has managed to accomplish this feat.

The Absence of Licensing

Unlike the leading enterprise computing services providers, you don’t need to obtain a license to use Linux. The cost of licensing is something which is a deterrent for smaller businesses. Since the cost of using Linux is considerably lower, it becomes the perfect platform for them to use.

User-Friendly Tools and Resources

Linux has been designed for the users, not technical experts. Linux tools are user-friendly and your IT personnel can have the server set up and installed in no time at all. Thus, it also saves precious time and effort. You don’t need to call in an expert to install Linux.

Stability of Performance

The best thing about Linux is that regardless of the number of users, the server runs on optimum capability. The additional load doesn’t cause the network to slow down, enabling the workers to carry on doing their jobs. It is also quite stable even if you establish a remote connection. This means that Linux can integrate seamlessly with your enterprise network.

Security Is Guaranteed

Linux is, hands down, the most secure of all operating systems enterprises can use. There are many tools, including walls and restricted permission, which can be deployed to ensure any security breaches are prevented.

Add to these the fact that Linux makes it easier to deploy cloud computing gives you a great idea of why Linux has been growing from strength to strength in the enterprise market. If the platform continues to improve at the pace it has maintained thus far, there is no reason why it couldn’t achieve more success and not just in the enterprise market. For now, Linux is the best operating system and cloud platform for businesses.
